Isla Espiga, the island played on in the RPG, is approximately seventy miles from Lima, the capitol of Peru. The island gets its name (which translates loosely to Spike Island) from it's mountainous appearance, noted by the native people. The island was formed approximately 17,00 years ago, during the period. Shortly after it's cooling, the first fauna started growing, which caused the native birds of South America to flock to the island. Even today, many of South America's types of birds still soar across the skies, being preyed upon by new, hungry eyes.

During the mid 1800's, geologists officially marked the island and gave it it's official name, Isla Espiga. After the naming, very little activity occurred concerning the island. It's consciousness faded from memory, and the island was glossed over on global maps as a small dot in the South Pacific.

That all changed during the 1940's, when a small German mining company named Kauffman Mining took interest in the island. Readings showed that the island was rich in coal, and immediately the company took interest in it. Several years later, the company left the island, leaving their makeshift buildings and a pile of profit.

Then, in the late-1980's, a bioengineering company called International Genetic Technologies, known as InGen, leased out the island from the South American government. Shorty after the purchase, the company sent men to the island, along with millions of dollars worth of technology with them. The natives were unsure of the nature of the companies interest; it was thought that they were building a resort, but no hard information was released to the public.

Shortly after the events of The Lost World, the company announced to the South American government that they would not renew their contract to lease the island when it comes time to renew it. The government, although not pleased, accepted the statement.

Before the events of JP3, the company lost their contract with the island. The government glossed over the event, and Isla Espiga was once again left abandoned. That is, untill John Hammond recieved word of what Ludlow was truly doing on the island. Although he was fuming, he decided that the animals should be left alone, seeing as how they are living animals, regardless of how they came to be alive. And, with the decision agreed by the UN and the South American government, the island was left alone.

........

Aaaaand, thats it. Sorry if some of the backstory seems odd, but I just wanted to get this idea off my chest. Hope this gives more detail to the RPG for the players and players-to-be!
